India has launched missile strikes on multiple sites in Pakistan and Pakistan-administered Kashmir, in retaliation for a deadly militant attack in Pahalgam, Kashmir, last month that killed 26 people.
The operation, named “Operation Sindoor,” targeted locations believed to house terrorist infrastructure. The Indian military emphasized that the strikes were “focused, measured, and non-escalatory,” avoiding Pakistani military facilities.
Pakistan confirmed missile attacks on areas including Kotli, Muzaffarabad, Bahawalpur, Muridke, and Bagh. At least three civilians, including a child, were killed and 12 others injured, according to Pakistani officials. Explosions caused power outages in Muzaffarabad, and a mosque and nearby homes were reportedly hit.
Pakistan denounced the attack as a “heinous provocation” and vowed to retaliate at a time and place of its choosing. Pakistan International Airlines suspended all flights temporarily, diverting traffic to Karachi. The situation underscores heightened tensions between the nuclear-armed neighbors, with both sides accusing each other of ceasefire violations.
The international community has expressed concern over the escalating tensions and urged both nations to exercise restraint.
This development marks a significant rise in hostilities between the two nuclear-armed nations, sparking fears of a potential “all-out war.”
