YouTube superstar MrBeast has reignited a viral internet debate by jokingly requesting 100 volunteers to help determine the outcome of a hypothetical battle: 100 men versus a single gorilla. The tongue-in-cheek request quickly caught fire online.
The bizarre but widely discussed scenario—who would win in a showdown between a group of 100 human males and a powerful gorilla—has captured imaginations across social media. Now, Jimmy Donaldson, famously known as MrBeast, has playfully joined the conversation. In a recent post featuring a stylized image of himself alongside a crowd of men facing off against a massive silverback gorilla, he wrote: “Need 100 guys to test this out. Any takers?”
The response was immediate. Fans flooded the comments volunteering to be part of what they perceived as a wild social experiment. One eager fan commented, “Count me in—even from Nigeria. We’re trained to face fear. If David beat Goliath, I can take the gorilla solo.” Another declared, “I’m in! No questions asked,” while someone else asked, “How much are we talking? Me and my crew are ready!”
Even Elon Musk weighed in on the conversation with a cheeky remark: “Sure, what’s the worst that could happen?” However, not everyone saw the humor. PETA chimed in with a more serious note, stating, “How about 100 reasons to stop using animals for entertainment instead?”
The origins of this unusual debate trace back to a viral TikTok trend in early 2022, which surged back into popularity in 2025, as noted by internet culture tracker Know Your Meme.
Interestingly, wildlife expert Dr. Tara Stoinski—president and chief scientist of the Dian Fossey Gorilla Fund—offered her take in an interview with Yahoo! News. While acknowledging the gorilla’s immense power, weight, and strength, she suggested the odds might favor the humans due to their sheer numbers and ability to strategize. “Even with the gorilla’s 400-pound frame and terrifying presence, 100 people could wear it down through coordination and persistence,” she said.
Though clearly meant as satire, MrBeast’s post has once again thrown fuel on the fire of one of the internet’s strangest and most persistent hypotheticals.
